Class Experience

In this class, learners will be introduced to multiplication through the use of candy manipulatives and arrays. Using a slideshow for visual learners, we will first complete an ice breaker game to get to know one another, then we will discuss the meaning of multiplication. After our discussion, I will model how to build a visual representation of a multiplication problem, we will build a few together, then students will build their own and show it/explain it to the class (if they choose to do so). Students may use any type of candy or treat, as well as non-food items, but wrapped, chewy fruit candies are excellent, no mess manipulatives, and can be reused over and over since the wrapper stays on. They also make a nice treat at the end of all of our hard work and learning.

**This class is meant for learners who are fluent with counting and have a good handle on basic addition and subtraction. No prior knowledge of multiplication is needed. This class would also be good for learners who have been introduced to basic multiplication (0s-12s), but struggle with having a concrete understanding of multiplication.

Learning Goals

Students will learn how to model multiplication facts using arrays (5x3=15).

Hello learners and parents!

My name is Megan and I have nearly 10 years of professional education experience. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Special Education and Elementary Education (all subjects) and a Master's degree as a K12 Reading Specialist.

From teaching in the classroom, to teaching online and private tutoring, to providing literacy and math coaching for intervention programs, I have worked with nearly every grade level and content area K-8th.

I have worked with struggling and reluctant learners before so it is my passion to make learning fun for all abilities and levels! The areas I'm most passionate about are literacy and math. You may also see some baking or cooking classes as these are some of my favorite pastimes.

Thanks for stopping by! I can't wait to meet your learner in class!
