Class Experience
In this fast-paced, interactive session we will begin with a mental warm-up, followed by a short lesson. We will then practice our facts and wrap-up with a fun game. The child will be encouraged to see, hear, say and physically write or manipulate simultaneously to help increase memory of the target facts. I will use the "I do, we do, you do" approach to help the child gain confidence and increase chances of success. A typical lesson will look like this: Warm-up (5 minutes): This will usually consist of skip counting forwards and backwards, or we might also play some mental games like "Which Number is Missing?" or "What's the Next Number?" Short Lesson with interactive practice (5-10 minutes): This will consist of teaching a pattern, trick, story or song to help the child gain familiarity and remember the targeted facts. Game or Activity (10-15 minutes): This gives us a chance to practice the skill in a fun and meaningful way.

Supply List
The learner will need either pencil and paper or a white board. I also suggest some plain white sheets of paper be made available as we will likely be drawing some models and/or pictures of various characters to help with remembering the facts.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Indiana Teaching Certificate in Social Studies/History
I am a licensed teacher in the State of Indiana with over 25 years experience teaching, tutoring and coaching. I have been trained in the Orton-Gillingham method by The Dyslexia Institute of Indiana and in Kindergarten OG by the M.A. Rooney Foundation. I have completed Advanced Orton-Gillingham Training and Written Expression Training by the Dyslexia Institute of Indiana. I have completed courses on dyslexia and structured literacy through the Montessori Foundation. I have also taken Conscious Discipline training. I am a professional member of the International Dyslexia Association. I am currently working on LETRS training through Voyager Sopris Learning and have completed Units 1-4 with Certificates of Mastery. In 2018-2020 I worked in a private Montessori school serving students who have Individual Service Plans. I also have experience with a variety of math methods and curriculums, but have been specifically tutoring using RightStart Math for 12 years.
