In this course, your mathematician will learn the basics of multiplication! Each week we will be introduced to a new aspect of multiplication for our first meeting, then we will practice that concept further in our second meeting. Students will be able to: - explain what multiplication is - represent multiplication using multiple strategies - identify examples of multiplication in real life - apply multiplication to real- life examples
I have been a teacher in upper elementary for 4 (going on 5) years. Multiplication is one of the most prominent math skills in theses grades, so I understand the importance of having a strong multiplication foundation.
Students will receive optional homework each week to support their multiplication learning. This homework should only take about 20 minutes.
Students will need: - 30 manipulatives (these can be anything you want as long as they are the same size. Examples include snapping cubes, coin- sized pieces of paper, leggo's, pencil erasers, etc.) - graph paper - construction paper - colored writing tools (pens, pencils, markers, etc.) - masking tape with a marker to write on the tape - yarn
Learners will be assessed with the final project. Informal feedback will be given to each learner in class, however, parents may request (ahead of time) to be provided with specific written feedback in a separate parent email.
1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Handouts will be utilized in this class and will be released 24 hours before the class start time.
