Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 5
Intermediate Level
Each week in this ongoing course, students will learn a different strategy to make multiplication easier to understand. We will focus on one technique per week and learn everything there is to know about it! This includes learning how to solve a problem using this strategy and understanding how each method works. My goal is to help your child thoroughly understand solving multiplication problems, not just memorizing math facts.

This course is designed for students who have an intermediate understanding of multiplication; this includes their basic times tables. We will focus on two- and three-digit multiplication (i.e., 39 x 28, 123 x 46, and 7 x 235).

If your student is still working on their understanding of times tables, I suggest starting with my “Mathematical Masters- Beginner” Course.

Since this course is ongoing, your child can join in the fun at any time to learn one strategy in particular or to build their mathematical toolbox as a whole! Each strategy is independent of the next, so your child does not need to know one strategy to learn another.

Although our strategy will change each week, our routine will not. Each 45-minute class will include the following:

- Student Introduction and Class Expectations
- Multiplication Math Warmup
- Introduction/ Review of the Weekly Strategy
- Weekly Strategy Practice and Discussion
- Multiplication Masters Mania, a game to promote the use of each multiplication strategy

Here is a list of our upcoming strategies:

- Week of November 7th: U.S. Standard Algorithm
- Week of November 14th: Distributive Property
- Week of November 21st: Area Model
- Week of November 28th: Partial Products
- Week of December 5th: U.S. Standard Algorithm
- Week of December 12th: Foil Method
- Week of December 19th: Lattice Method

In our class, students are encouraged to ask questions, and they are allowed to make mistakes. In this fun and engaging environment, each students’ effort will be cheered on because, quite frankly, they deserve to know what extraordinary learners they are! I hope to see you soon!

I am a licensed elementary school teacher with five years of classroom experience working with grades K-5. I am well-versed in all current mathematical strategies used in classrooms across the country and the educational requirements set by Common Core State Standards. I help all students succeed in math by allowing them to find which mathematical strategies work best for them as an individual. I then work with them to develop a deeper understanding of their preferred strategy. I believe that all students deserve a positive learning environment where they are encouraged to ask questions and their efforts are celebrated.
