Does your student struggle to memorize their multiplication facts? It can be difficult for some students to remember their facts. This can be frustrating for the learner because they still have to complete multiplication problems and division problems. This course is for students (special education or general education) who struggle to memorize multiplication facts but still want to learn how to solve multi-digit multiplication problems and long division problems. Day 1: After introductions, students will follow along with the teacher to begin creating a basic fact sheet using a counting and tally mark strategy. This fact sheet involves listing the factors and products of a given number (i.e. 2 x 0= 0) in order, without memorization or knowledge of skip counting numbers. The teacher will go over, in detail, how to create this fact sheet. Students will be given opportunities to complete their fact sheets as independence is shown during class. Next students will practice using this fact sheet strategy with guided practice problems. During this class, we will also complete a three-digit by one digit multiplication problem. At the end of class, students will be given one multiplication problem (two-digit by one-digit) to solve on their own. Day 2 This class will use the same fact sheet strategy as above and also I will teach the Turtlehead Method, which is a strategy that teaches students the steps of solving multi-digit multiplication problems in a fun and meaningful way. After a review of the fact sheet strategy, students will learn to solve a simple two-digit by -two-digit multiplication problem with the teacher. We will go over how to solve this type of problem using the Turtlehead Method (a strategy that teaches the steps to solve the problem) and what to do when students do not know the answer to a multiplication problem. Students will be given the opportunity to solve these multiplication problems through guided questions and independence depending on the current level of students during the live class. Day 3 After a review of two digits by two-digit multiplication problems, students will learn to solve a simple three-digit by -two-digit multiplication problem with the teacher.
