Beginner Level
In this engaging and interactive class, learners will explore common spelling rules using hands-on activities and sensory-based techniques that make learning spelling a breeze. Repetition and retention are the cornerstones of each class meeting. During each meeting, students will: -Segment words by tapping out individual sounds. -Use fingers to "trace" each letter of the word as the teacher dictates. (Sensory item is highly recommended. Please see the supply list.) -Write words on paper or whiteboard. -Verbally spell words as the teacher writes them on the whiteboard. This class combines direct instruction with highly interactive, multi-sensory learning techniques. Activities are scaffolded to ensure learners grasp concepts while staying motivated and excited about spelling.
Learning Goals
Students will learn common spelling rules for English words and apply these rules using a multi-sensory approach.

Hello everyone! My name is Sarah and I am a formerly licensed Language Arts teacher based in Ohio who has completed graduate-level work in reading intervention. I received my degree from Bowling Green State University with a major in Liberal Studies - focus on English. I am also the mother of three lovely kids who keep me on my toes! I taught for several years in the public school system but left because I longed for the flexibility and fluidity of true learning. I believe that children should be allowed to express themselves openly while they learn and I love nothing more than an active conversation with my students!
My family is "educationally eclectic." My oldest child has attended private and public schools, while my youngest two are currently educated at home with me. I appreciate the value and necessity of a myriad of educational approaches and teaching styles.
I teach all areas of Language Arts, Elementary Math and Visual Arts. I also have several years of experience working with neurodivergent learners, focusing on access to education. I look forward to meeting all of you very soon!
