Class Experience

US Grade 1
During this sight word lesson, students will use at least 5 multi-sensory techniques to help them memorize three to five sight words. Students will be engaged with one another and be able to share their work as they learn to read, write, and spell the words of the day. Students will be introduced to approximately five words per day, but the stay vary depending on the complexity of the words. Activities will include dice games, play-doh, painting, writing, and hand motions. This combination of audio, visual, and kinesthetic learning techniques has proven to be beneficial for many students. This class is designed for first grade students, but is appropriate for all early readers. This class uses the Orton-Gillingham method for reading and writing and benefits all students, but is especially beneficial for struggling reading and students with learning disabilities (including dyslexia and ADHD).

Hi, I specialize in teaching reading. It is my passion to introduce students to books and develop a love for reading in kids of all ages. I have a masters degree in education from Columbia University's Teachers College and a special education certificate in special education from Brooklyn College in New York City. I have worked as a peer tutor, as a test prep tutor, and as an Orton-Gillingham tutor, helping students overcome various reading difficulties to achieve their goals. I also worked as a reading teacher and a special education teacher at a title 1 charter school in NYC. I believe that every child has the potential to become an avid reader, we just have to ignite their passion and build their skills in an individualized way. I recently moved from NYC to live near the ocean. My hobbies include going to the beach, traveling, playing tennis, and or course READING!
