*This class is an introduction of 6 reading rules from my Ongoing Multi-sensory Phonics, and Phonemic Awareness Class. The effects of training phonological awareness and learning to read are mutually supportive. "Reading and phonemic awareness are mutually reinforcing: Phonemic awareness is necessary for reading, and reading, in turn, improves phonemic awareness still further." (Shaywitz, 2003, see References) -This is a FLEX class, which means the course DOES NOT HAVE A WEEKLY LIVE SESSION. Each week teaching videos will be uploaded to the classroom and questions and assignments will be posted for the week. You can watch the video when it works for you and answer the questions on your time schedule. Flexibility is key! Each week's engaging video lesson will begin with a short phonemic awareness practice and warm up. These exercises can have a critical impact on reading success. Each week we will have a spelling rule I will present by video. Students will follow along on their white boards writing words and sentences that practice the week's spelling rule. Students are encouraged to illustrate their sentences and post a photo in classroom. Students will be encouraged to think of words that follow the week's spelling rule so they can post in the classroom for classmates to practice reading. Students can post videos of them saying the word, and challenge classmates to spell using the week's spelling rule. Week 1. Closed Syllables Short Vowels Week 2. Blends at the End of Words Week 3. Blends at the Beginning Week 4. Floss Rule- The double spelling of F, L, S and Z at the end of words with one vowel. Week 5. Kiss the Cat Rule- Spelling of C or K in the beginning of words. Week 6.
