Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 7
Beginner Level
This 45-minute class will meet 4 times total in four weeks to work on understanding the parts, process, and planning of an explanatory essay.

🖋 The first class will review the explanatory essay with a brief description and an example, then lead into a learning or review session of the process of writing an essay, the parts of an essay, and the planning of an essay using a brainstorm and an outline.

🖋 The second class will facilitate planning the paragraph section of their essay (2 to 3 paragraphs depending on age and ability). A paragraph plan will be included and used in the process to help students understand how the outline is used and helpful.

🖋 The third class will facilitate planning their essay's introduction and conclusion paragraphs. The outline from the first class will be used to do this and illustrate how easy using the outline makes writing a multi-paragraph essay.

🖋 The fourth class will be for final touches, including how to formate the final essay and turn it in to the teacher. The students will be welcome to share their essays with the class.

Students are welcome and encouraged to participate in class discussion-style learning and review sessions. They are prompted to ask questions and seek peer and teacher input. Extensive feedback will be offered between classes for all learners who submit their work to the teacher on the Outschool platform.

By the end of the course, students will understand what an explanatory multi-paragraph essay is, its parts, the process of writing such an easy, and the usefulness of brainstorming and outlining prior to writing.

Students should have learned the basics of topic sentences and paragraph writing for the best results in this class. I offer both of these as preliminary classes to this course.
