I provide optional resources for "homework," designed to be enjoyable activities for families. These resources include Boom Cards (digital flashcards and spelling games) and printable game boards and writing worksheets. While these materials offer extra practice and creative opportunities, they are entirely optional and not required for all students. Families can choose to use them based on their preferences and availability. I am passionate about the effectiveness of these resources, and they are crafted with care by me. They're still completely optional! If you have any questions or feedback, don't hesitate to reach out.Assessment
For this class, I offer an informal assessment upon request. This assessment is a phoneme awareness checklist. We will take one class to review 73 phonemes (letters and letter pairs), including both individual letters and letter pairs. This helps ensure a comprehensive understanding of the sounds and their combinations. No formal letter grades or certificates of completion will be offered. The focus is on practical skill development and individual progress. If you would like to request an informal assessment for your child, please let me know!Class Experience
Beginner Level
Hello friends! It's Molly, here to share with you about our wonderful phonics class. English is a beautiful language with 26 letters and 45 sounds, and it's important for children to identify these sounds in order to become confident and fluent readers. We will be focusing on those tricky letter pairs like OO, AI, AU, EA, ED, IGH, TH, PH, KN, and NG. Did you know CH makes three sounds? Did you know SI, TI, and CI make the sound 🤫 /sh/? Mastering phonics will make reading so much easier for your child. The video walks you through a few class slides, giving you a preview of our in-class activities and an idea of the Boom Cards available for practice after class. 25-Minute Class Overview: 1. Other Details
Pre-Requisites
No prerequisites are required for Level 2 of my phonics class. However, for those seeking more familiarity with phonics sounds, you may find it helpful to review my introductory Level 1 phonics class.
Supply List
🎧 There are no materials required for class, but I highly suggest a pair of headphones. Listening is a big deal in phonics because we're doing two things: looking for letters and listening for their sounds. Headphones ensure good audio quality. 📌 Please note: Every week I offer Boom Cards (digital flashcards with images and audio). You will need to create a free account at www.boomlearning.com to play. These flashcards are a great resource, but they are completely optional. In the welcome post, you'll receive 5 optional flashcard sets that review all the sounds in English. These may be helpful to review before class to practice identifying letters and their sounds.
