Students will learn how to use the strategy of area models in order to solve a 2 digit by 2 digit multiplication problem. We will cover place value concepts, area, adding up to 4 digits, and 1 digit by 1 digit multiplication. The class will be structured in the typical format of I do, we do it together, and they do it on their own. The concepts will be taught through a whiteboard, examples, pictures/visuals, and simple step by step directions. The learners will get to interact with one another by guiding each other and they will also interact and have discussions with me. The learners will need to know basic place value, basic multiplication, how to calculate the area of a rectangle, and how to add up to the thousands place.
