Description

Class Experience

This class is taught in English.
Students will learn how to discuss narrative structure and explain their point of view and the way they understood a story.
I have experience handling multiple students of high school age ranges and above. I feel no worries about facilitating this student led conversation. I was in this group with college students and helped lead and keep it on track as an older student. No sensitive topics will be chosen.

I've studied sociology and philosophy for years in my undergrad degree and will be able to discuss with the students in a rational and calm way and redirect any unfortunate thoughts students may have picked up online from alt right Youtube videos or ban students from class who are disruptive/do not take the serious aspects of the discussion seriously. I also took courses in my college that addressed how to handle sensitive topics and have a range of sensitive topics of my own personal nature that I navigate on a daily basis. I am also part of groups that do the same and teach people how to use trigger warnings, and how to speak in ways that cause no harm.
Read the assigned story through the week to discuss Saturday and Sunday.
Stories will be from multiple genres, either available from literary journals I have or from PDF files I supply or websites
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Stories will be more appropriate for older teens than younger teens.
