Class Experience

US Grade 7 - 10
We will spend our time on concept development, skill fluency, homework help, and test preparation. You may provide a specific curriculum or request that a curriculum be tailored to the learner.

My goal as an educator is to build confidence and independence. Lessons will typically include problem-solving that begins with what the student thinks is the right step and then discover together the most efficient ways to solve problems rather than an instructor demonstration. In order to learn something deeply, it must connect to prior knowledge. In order to build confidence, we need to experience success in our own decision-making and problem-solving choices.

We will meet through the Outschool platform where we will screen share materials and solve problems using the integrated whiteboard. Students may solve problems on paper and whiteboard while speaking their solving process aloud or may choose to interact with the whiteboard if their technology allows.

If additional practice problems are needed, I will share link to free online resources such as Khan Academy, Desmos, and OpenStax OER textbooks. This practice will not require an account or a purchase of any kind to use. Most practice will give students the opportunity to immediately check their answers.

Students can request any topics in middle school, high school, and upper-level mathematics. Common areas students need help are:
Algebra: Factoring, Graphing functions, Solving equations, Quadratics
Algebra 2: Logarithms, Conics, Trigonometry, Statistics
Geometry: Writing Proofs, Trigonometry
Calculus: Derivatives, Integration
AP Statistics: Hypothesis Testing, Descriptive Statistics
