Class Experience

I am excited to offer this Piano Class #6 class for students that have completed the primer level piano materials. In this class, students will use the s piano resource method book "Faber Piano Adventures Lesson Book"- Level 1. This is for students that have completed instruction in the primer level lesson book. Piano Class #3, #4, and #5 do not need to be completed in order to begin this class. My Piano Classes #1 and #2 instruct students through the primer level lesson book. Classes #3-#5 use supplementary materials in the primer level to strengthen the primer level skills. Those classes are not required in order to begin this class.

The skills in this book are more advanced than the primer level lesson book and take more time to master. Because this class is a more advanced level, we will only cover pages 4-29 in the lesson book. Piano Class #7 will complete the learning in this lesson book.

Each week, students will attend the live class and be introduced to new musical skills. Continuing music skills, such as using both hands at the same time, as well as "legato" playing, "staccato" playing, and intervals.

Additional activities, such as piano melodies to play, simple composition activities, coloring activities, and drawing activities may be sent home to encourage their learning and review skills they have been taught each week. Students are encouraged to record and upload videos of themselves playing songs they have learned. They are encouraged to share these with me, as well as the other students. They will also have opportunities to share their drawings of rhythm compositions and other activities in the class.

I will be demonstrating the new skills in each week's class. The class include two camera views. One of the views is from the end of the piano so that students can see from that angle. The more important camera view will be from above the keyboard. Students will be able to see my hands on the keyboard so that it is clear which notes and which fingers they should be using. Each week students will be given an assignment including pages in the book to practice. Additional songs may be sent home as supplementary songs that will reinforce the skills that they have learned in that particular lesson.

The basic weekly schedule of new skills will look something like this:

Week 1- Part of this week will be spent as a review. Students will learn the treble and bass clef line notes.

Week 2- Students will practice playing using the C 5-finger scale. They will also review "steps" and "skips". They will also learn about
              the damper pedal.

Week 3- Students will learn about "staccato" playing and will continue playing in the C 5-finger scale position. They will learn Treble A
              in the right hand.

Week 4- Students will learn about the treble clef space notes through a variety of songs and activities.

Week 5- Students will learn about three different C's on the Grand Staff. They will also learn the notes treble C, D, and E as well as the
              composer Mozart.

Week 6- Students will continue learning treble notes (C, D, E, F, G) They will continue reviewing "steps" and "skips".

Week 7- Students will learn about intervals (2nds and 3rds).

Week 8- Students will review 2nds and 3rds, as well as all other skills learned in this level. Students are encouraged to continue Piano
Class #7 that will continue with this same method book and begins where this class stops.

Students will be sent a certificate to show completion of this class.
