NOTE: This is the SAME content as my popular ongoing class (Social Group: Making Meaningful Friendships) but offered as multi-day section for students that want to get all the class information in a smaller time frame. Students will be taught different tips and tricks geared towards upper elementary and middle school students on making and maintaining friendships. This is a multi-day class with different topics each day, revolving around the central theme on how to create meaningful friendships: ☆ Day One - Qualities of a good friend & how to identify these qualities in social situations ☆ Day Two - Ways to meet new people & find long term friends ☆ Day Three - How to reciprocate friendship to others & maintain good friendships ☆ Day Four - Dealing with peer pressure & toxic friends ☆ Day Five - Problem-solving possible scenarios with friends This class is 75 minutes which includes my typical 60 minute typical lesson with approximately 15 minutes at the end of class for open discussion, questions, and free-talk time. If you are interested in the class but only available for the 60 minutes, students will not lose any educational time by missing the last 15 minutes of class but it is highly encouraged. No previous experience or knowledge is needed. Students will be encouraged to participate in conversations and to ask questions, but I am sensitive to the fact that it may take some time for students to get to that point. I differentiate the learning to accommodate the specific needs of students. We will play games, view informational slides / short video clips, and have discussions where students can ask / answer questions. I originally created this course to help students who are having a hard time making friends due to being shy and students with mental health or social disabilities, BUT is open to everyone. ❀ My Teaching Philosophy ❀ All my classes are INCLUSIVE. I strive to accommodate all types of students in my lessons and create a safe, welcoming space. I will always state my expectations at the beginning of my lessons and have high expectations for all my students. I do not tolerate bullying, cursing, or mean language in my classes. Although my expectations are high, I want students to laugh and enjoy their time in my class. My goal is for students to enjoy class while always learning something new!
Other Details
Parental Guidance
As we are discussing problems with making and maintaining friendships, students are given a safe space to bring up issues directly related to making friends. My goal is to create a safe and trusting space, but as a mandatory reporter, I will share information or concerns on abuse, self-harm, or harm to others. There is a possibility of sensitive topics being brought up by students. As a trained educator, I will respond to these concerns as I would within a traditional classroom setting. If a topic is not appropriate or relevant, I will communicate this to students and share concerns with parents.
