In this fun, interactive course, learners will learn topics in chemistry. They will learn several concepts, do practice problems and be able to ask questions. The instructor will discuss the topic while showing slides. The learners will be able to take notes in class. A short quiz will be given at the end of each week to check comprehension. Week 1 - Measurements, SI Units, unit conversion, unit conversion or dimensional analysis, scientific notation, significant figures, Temperature conversion, Density Week 2 - Accuracy & Precision, Periodic table, Properties of Elements, Matter, Mixtures, Physical and Chemical Properties, Physical and Chemical Changes Week 3 - Atomic Theory, Atomic Structure, Isotopes, Atomic mass calculation, Periodic Trends, Electronconfiguration, Light and electrons, Absorption and Emission spectrum Week 4 - Ions, Ionic bonds, Octet rule, Poly-atomic Ions, Naming Ionic Compounds, Formulas, formula/molecular mass, % composition, Empirical Formula Week 5 - Covalent Bonds, Formulas,Naming Covalent Compounds, Diatomic molecules, Lewis Dot structures, Resonance structures, VSEPR Theory, Polarity, Intermolecular Forces Week 6 - What is a reaction?, Types of Reactions, balancing equations, Solubility rules, net ionic equations Week 7 - the mole and Avagadro's number, Stoichiometry, % yield, % error, Limiting reactant Week 8 - Solutions, solubility curves, different units of concentration, dilutions, colligative properties Learners will be assigned a few homework problems at the end of each class. In the following class, answers will be given. If learners need help obtaining a solution, the instructor will solve the problem in class.

I teach Science and Math classes for Outschool. I have a Master's degree in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. I've had experience as a Chemistry lab instructor in undergraduate university. While in graduate school, I was a Teaching Assistant for General Chemistry classes for 8 semesters. Also, I was a Chemistry camp Assistant for "Fun with Forensic Chemistry".
I have worked internationally as a teacher and am TESOL certified. In South Korea, I taught high school Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Physical Science and Geometry. I taught English and Math from K-8 in South Korea as well.
