This class will cover two concepts, brought together for cross-curricular fun! Each week we will prepare a different muffin and Composer: Week 1: Blueberry Muffins and Ludwig V. Beethoven Week 2: Cinnamon Raisin Muffins and John Cage Week 3: Cheddar/Chive Muffins and Pyotr I. Tchaikovsky Week 4: Celebration Muffins (Chocolate Chip or Funfetti- Student Choice) and Antonio Vivaldi Each week we will make a different type of muffin and learn about a composer while doing so. We will listen to a piece of music and discuss it using musical terms while we wait for the muffins to bake. First, we will prepare the muffins. We will go over the kitchen checklist and follow the recipe (provided on the recipe card) to create the muffin of the week to share with family and friends (all recipes yield 12 muffins). Students will follow steps along with the teacher, with visuals to guide throughout the process. Students will gain confidence in their cooking skills. Once the muffins go in the oven, we will use our 25 minutes of cook time to learn about a composer while we clean up! We will listen to a piece of music while we clean, then discuss the piece of music using musical terms. Visuals and composer pages will be provided. After class, you can enjoy your muffin and discuss the composer of the week! I focus on interactive learning, so although I may have a distinct plan, I am open to changing course for our learners!
