In this whimsical and creative class inspired by "Mud Pies and Other Recipes" by Marjorie Winslow, students will think creatively about how to make mudpies and other recipes out of "ingredients" and "tools" they can find and make from things at home. In the first lesson, they will be guided through making a cake pan and explore possible ingredients. In the second lesson, we will explore vocabulary specific to recipes, write a recipe together, and make serving dishes. In the third and final lesson, we will make a solar oven to bake mudpies, and share with each other our culinary masterpieces! Add some new imaginative outdoor play to your routine to "spice" up your summer in this fun and engaging class. See you outside in the kitchen!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi! My name is Emily Fleenor. I'm a certified teacher in Elementary and Special Education, and I have a bachelor's degree in these areas. I've been an educator for 12 years in a variety of settings. I am passionate about social and emotional growth in students. I believe that meeting kids' social and emotional needs through a caring relationship is the critical foundation to helping students reach their ultimate potential. I create safe, inviting spaces for kids to build relationships with me and with other students. My classes prioritize social and emotional learning alongside academic goals, helping kids find confidence and joy in their learning journey.
My husband and I have four kids, a dog, more books than the public library and more yarn than a craft store. (I love to knit. Ask me about it!) I can't wait to see you in class!
