Class Experience

Aloha!!!

Hula is a beautiful dance that is completely unique to Hawai’i. While hula is often performed for entertainment, in ancient times hula played a critical role in preserving stories, history, culture, and traditions of Hawai’i

This ongoing class is designed to give your dancer an introduction into the Hawaiian culture through the beautiful art of hula dancing, the Hawaiian language and meaning of Aloha.

Throughout this learning segment your dancer will learn and practice the basic hula steps, learn how to count to 10 in Hawaiian and hopefully develop a greater interest in the art of hula and everything that is has to offer. The basics will include position of the feet, positions of the arms and movements in dance (to include bent knees, steady upper body, fluid hand movements, in addition to each basic hula step.) While each class will SLIGHTLY build upon the prior class students can join AT ANY TIME because the steps will be reviewed and taught at a pace suitable to ALL the students in the class.

No prior experience or knowledge is needed. Students starting after the first day of class can still join and should NOT be discouraged. They will have some catching up to do, but we will cover and review all the basic steps each week. They can do it!

>>>I want to teach your dancer. If you don't see a time or date that works with your schedule please send me a message and I will do my best to accommodate you.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Growing up I had the privilege of practicing hula and competing for nine years under the guidance of an outstanding kumu hula (hula teacher). Not only did a fall in love with the dance but I developed a great love for the Hawaiian culture and traditions. I am so excited to pass on just a little piece of what I have learned.
