What's included

1 live meeting
40 mins in-class hours per week
Homework
1 hour per week. Each week, children will be tasked with reading 1 or more chapters of the book independently, or with an adult, before we meet again. The pages have fairly large writing and generally have a picture on each page so it shouldn't be too much reading. They will also be asked to either write a sentence or two about their favorite part of their independent reading and/or make an illustration to share at the beginning of the next class. The drawing/writing is an optional piece.

Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 2
Beginner Level
Welcome to Ms. Norma's Book Nook, where young readers embark on a magical journey through the pages of captivating stories! Our book club is designed for children ages 5-8 who are eager to explore the wonders of literature in a fun and interactive environment. Each session is filled with engaging activities, lively discussions, and memorable experiences that ignite a lifelong love for reading.

Features:

Month Long Book Focus: Each month, we will focus on a new book by beloved author Kate DiCamillo. If you child would like to join in the middle of the month, just send me a message and I will let you know what pages in the book we've already read. Learners are always welcome to join at any point throughout the month!

Interactive Reading Sessions: Each week, children gather in a cozy and welcoming space to embark on a journey through the pages of specially selected books. Led by Ms. Norma, reading sessions are filled with expressive storytelling, character voices, and interactive elements that bring stories to life.

Creative Activities: Ms. Norma's Book Nook is not just about reading; it's about experiencing stories in meaningful ways. Each session features hands-on activities such as arts and crafts, dramatic play, games, and storytelling exercises that complement the themes and characters of the books.

Vocabulary Building: As a parent and educator, I believe in nurturing strong literacy skills from an early age. Through engaging vocabulary-building exercises and word games, children expand their language proficiency while having fun with new words and expressions encountered in the books.

Building Friendships: Ms. Norma's Book Nook fosters a sense of belonging and camaraderie among young readers. Children have the opportunity to share their thoughts, ideas, and favorite book recommendations with their peers, building friendships and connections through their shared love of reading.
