Class Experience

When I was growing up, I fell in love with the amazing Magic Tree House series. Even though the books are fictional, they contain many cool facts about history and nature that are presented in an adventurous and fun way. Whether you're new to the Magic Tree House series or a long-time fan like me, you'll be sure to enjoy this book club.

Book clubs provide a variety of benefits to students, such as:
-Critical thinking - Discussion questions push learners to think critically about the material, and encourages them to make inferences and make connections to their own lives.
-Reading comprehension - Answering discussion questions about the story can help to strengthen a reader's understanding of the material.
-Accountability - Students will need to read each week's book in-between meetings, requiring them to take responsibility and make sure they have the book finished in time.
-Social skills - Reading with others can be fun! It allows students to hear the perspective of others who have read the same book that they have, which they can then compare with their own opinion and perspective.

The class will mostly follow a question-and-answer format. We'll start each class by introducing ourselves, and we'll each share one positive event that happened in the past week. I'll then ask the students some questions I've prepared based on the assigned story, but there may be some improvised questions as well based on everyone's answers. Students are also be encouraged to ask their own questions if they have any! Lastly, if there is extra time after the discussion, we'll do a fun activity (such as a craft or game) the relates to our book for the week. If our discussion runs long, I'll still explain the planned activity to the students so they can complete it after the meeting. We'll then finish off class by introducing the book for the following week's discussion.

**PARENTS PLEASE NOTE: Check the "Homework" section below for each section's reading schedule.

See you in class!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I'm Ms. Lindsay. I teach classes on a variety of topics, including video games, anime, baking, crafts, and more! These are my personal interests and hobbies that I spend a ton of time learning about myself, and I'm excited that I have the opportunity to share my love of these topics with others.

In 2017, I graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, and my focuses were art and business. I have experience working with young children through leading storytime/arts & crafts at my local library, as well as tutoring students in English and Reading. I have also worked with foreign students who speak different languages to strengthen their pronunciation and conversational skills.

When it comes to my teaching style, I believe it’s important to have fun in class, and focus on students' interests to keep them engaged in their education. I also work hard to foster a positive and uplifting classroom environment, to boost confidence and encourage students to be proud of who they are! Ultimately, students should look forward to having class, instead of feeling like it's boring or something that they're required to do.

I'm looking forward to meeting all of those awesome learners out there. See you in class!
