Ms. Kirbie's Social Studies Tutoring:World & U.S History, Geography, Government!
Class experience
US Grade 5 - 9
This social studies tutoring class is designed to help each student with their individual needs. Since Social Studies is such a large topic, we can cover lots of different subjects depending on what the student needs to improve on. Not only is this class for tutoring but also for teaching new content. The student will hear a lecture and follow along through slides with pictures to visually represent the topic of study. Students will also be quizzed to ensure mastery of the topic. I believe...
Students will have the ability to learn and practice all topics of Social Studies through tutoring. They will practice geography skills, history, and government.
Because there are sensitive topics when teaching social studies, relevant training is a must. My experience with teaching social studies is fairly deep. I have taught Social Studies to 6th and 8th graders for several years and then most recently moved up to teaching High School aged students for the past school year. Currently, I teach High School World History, U.S. Government, and U.S. History. In, college I was trained as a Middle School Social Studies teacher and have a degree in Social Studies Education. All my experience comes from being in a traditional school setting.

Learners will not need any specific materials for this class. They are welcome to take their own notes if they would like.
This tutoring class will be kept age appropriate and will refrain from using excessively graphic images to represent the topics covered. Students also have the option of being exposed to different regions and cultures throughout the world. With this being a social studies class, the content will be completely factual and provide all view points of topics covered. When discussing a controversial topic, I am very strict when it comes to discussions. I do not tolerate hate speech or inappropriate comments. Questions may be asked but I do not share personal opinions. As far as handling controversial topics, all facts and sides are presented to ensure there is no bias.
I like to use a wide variety of sources to ensure that different view points are covered. These resources are only used to create the lectures and content taught in the class. Students will not be visiting these cites during class. Here is a list of sources used to create the lessons. I will also be using the Almanac of World History by National Geographic https://www.nationalgeographic.com/ https://www.facinghistory.org/topics https://optv.pbslearningmedia.org https://worldhistorymatters.org https://www.history.com/topics/united-states-constitution/constitution https://www.gilderlehrman.org/history-resources https://new.civiced.org https://bensguide.gpo.gov http://www.geographia.com https://www.nationalgeographic.com/maps/
