1 hour per week. There will not be any assigned homework for this series however the participants will be encouraged to practice what they've learned so they can ask questions, should any arise, during the next class.Class Experience
This is a 4 week (one lesson per week) journey, guiding your learner into the world of yoga. Your child will be taught how to use positive affirmations and breathwork to decrease stress and anxiety. They will also be taught a variety of yoga postures and a yoga flow to help improve overall strength and flexibility. This course is built to promote stress relief while increasing self-confidence, mindfulness, and body awareness. Week 1: We will cover the meaning of yoga, meditation and pranayama (breath techniques). Your tween will learn how and why we meditate, why breath is important, and be introduced to sun salutations (a specific set of yoga postures that flow from one to the next). They will explore at least one balance pose and participate in a mindfulness activity. Each class will begin slow, increase in momentum and then slow back down to allow for a period of deep relaxation (savasana). Afterward, we will have more discussion about yoga and what it incorporates. Your child will be given the opportunity to share and discuss with their classmates and then class will be dismissed. Week 2: We will continue to explore what yoga means. Your tween will begin to learn new poses beyond the sun salutation, be introduced to other breathing techniques, and participate in a yoga activity to promote self-confidence and mindfulness. We will continue the discussion on meditation and learn other ways to meditate. They will participate in a (short) savasana and before closing the class they will be given the opportunity to share any thoughts, feelings, and questions with their classmates. Week 3: We will review what was taught during Week 2 and build upon it. Your tween will learn about keeping a journal and why it can be helpful. They will then participate in writing a journal entry in their own journal or on a piece of paper. They will be taught additional poses and may be asked if they would like to create a yoga pose to demonstrate. They will continue to practice meditation. Finally, your tween will be guided into a (short) savasana, and before closing the class they will be asked if they would like to share anything with their classmates. Week 4: On this final week, we will do a short review of the previous weeks. Your tween will participate in balance poses, learn a short yoga flow, and be asked if they would like to share a flow they have created (pose combination). They will enjoy a fun yoga activity and then be guided into the last savasana of this series. Before closing the class they will have the opportunity to share their thoughts about anything learned during the 4 weeks and any questions they have will be answered. *Each passing week will build on the previous week. There will be a short review of what we learned to allow for a chance to really grasp the concepts and/or should they have missed a class, they will have a chance to understand the concepts missed.
Learning Goals
Student's should finish this 4 week course with a better understanding of the true meaning of yoga. They will have been taught strategies to use when feeling anxious, overly excited or upset. If your child spends time outside of class practicing yoga postures (poses), by the end of this course they should also have improved flexibility and increased their strength. My hope is your child enjoys the course and uses what they have learned to better their life.

Parental Guidance
You understand that yoga includes physical movement and, as is the case with any physical activity, the risk of injury, even serious or disabling, is always present and cannot be entirely eliminated. By participating, you acknowledge that your child is fit to do so. If they experience any pain or discomfort, they agree to listen to their body, and discontinue the activity. You assume full responsibility for any and all damages, which may occur through participation. Yoga is not a substitute for medical attention, examination, diagnosis or treatment.
