Reading Comprehension: Students will be able to read and comprehend the story of Heidi, identifying key events, characters, and themes within the text.

Critical Thinking: Students will develop critical thinking skills by analyzing the motivations and actions of the characters in Heidi, evaluating their consequences, and making connections to real-life situations.

Character Analysis: Students will analyze the traits, behaviors, and growth of the main characters in Heidi, exploring their development throughout the story and understanding their impact on the narrative.

Theme Exploration: Students will identify and explore the major themes presented in Heidi, such as the transformative power of friendship, the importance of nature, and the value of kindness. They will examine how these themes relate to their own lives and society.

Creative Expression: Students will engage in creative activities, such as art, drama, and writing, to express their understanding of Heidi. They will create visual representations, perform dramatic interpretations, and write imaginative responses, showcasing their creativity and interpretation of the story.

As an experienced teacher, I bring a wealth of expertise spanning various art forms such as mixed media, fiber arts, beadwork, and jewelry making, accumulated over 31 years.  Additionally, my dual licensure as a K-12 teacher, coupled with over 16 years of working with students across different grades and abilities, equips me with a versatile skill set. I have extensive experience in teaching diverse subjects, including behavior and social skills, to create inclusive learning environments. As a published poet, I possess a genuine enthusiasm for teaching reading and writing, instilling a love for books and inspiring students along the way.
   
Homework Offered
Students are required to read the weeks assigned reading to be prepared for the next class.

Reports or grades based on engagement, participation and work completion can be provided to parents or partner schools upon request.
Grades Offered
Loom, Kahoot, Google Classroom, Forms, Docs, Jamboard and Slides will all be used to brainstorm and share ideas, and create interactive workspaces.  Students are not required to use these resources, however they are helpful to collaborate, share, interact with classmates and gain immediate feedback on progress. If your child does not have access to one or more of these resources, they will be provided alternate ways to engage and participate within the classroom, though they may not experience as rich an experience.
