Description
Class Experience
This class will be very laid back. We will start each class by greeting one another and talking a little bit. I will encourage students to grab a snack and get in their comfy spot as I get ready to read to them. I have a fun opening song/chant that we will do each class to get us ready to listen. Then I will share the book that I will be reading to them. We will discuss it a bit and then dive in to reading it. Throughout the book I will give students a chance to interact with the story...
Students will interact with peers and teacher to practice good social skills. Students will listen to engaging read alouds to practice listening skills. Students will participate in class discussions about the books to practice oral language and comprehension skills. Students will participate in hands on activities to make connections about the books they are listening to with real life situations.
Storytelling is one of my very favorite things to do with children. In my 25 years as a classroom teacher and reading specialist, I have collected and shared quite a few of my favorite read aloud books with my students. I love to make the stories come alive and engage the children as we read. I always like to do a follow-up activity that goes along with the story as well.
There will be no homework outside of class.
See the description for each week for a list of supplies that will be needed. Any printables that they need will be uploaded into the classroom on the Sunday before the week of class.
There will be no formal assessment for this class.
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
In the class description for each week there is a list of supplies that will be needed for that week's storytime class. If students have a copy of the book we are reading they are welcome to bring it to class. Students may bring a snack to class each week. Students may find a cozy spot for storytime each week.
