During story time we discuss: ~beginning/middle/end of the story (plot) ~characters ~setting ~themes ~practice responding to stories by drawing, writing, or creating a simple art craft
I am a certified K-6 teacher and have taught for 21 years.
I encourage students to use the drawing, writing, or simple art craft they created to "retell" the story to a family member, pet, or favorite stuffed animal. This helps students retain the skills they learned and build confidence in their ability to learn.
~a blank sheet of paper ~crayons/markers/pencil
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students leave story time feeling confident about the response (drawing, writing, or simple art craft) they created because I give specific, positive feedback and encouragement to each student.
25 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
