The teacher will follow the format of the Math-U-See Pre-Algebra textbook. Twice weekly students will listen to a brief lecture from the teacher. The teacher will clearly demonstrate practice problems. The teacher will engage all of the students with comprehension checks, learning games, and engaging slides. We will practice the problems together as a class to build confidence, answer questions, and practice skills. As the goal of our math drills is mastery, the students will then take turns reteaching the skills. All students will work together, build each other up, and share in one another's successes. The topics covered in this course will be: Week 1: Negative Numbers (Adding and Subtracting), Week 2: Negative Numbers (Multiplication, Division), Integers, and Number Line [Quiz] Week 3: Exponents and Timeline Week 4: Negative Numbers (Exponents) and Roots/Radicals Week 5: Solve for an Unknown with Additive Inverse and Pythagorean Theorem [Quiz] Week 6: Associative, Commutative Property, and Distributive Property Week 7: Solve for the Unknown (Multiplicative Inverse, Order of Operation) Week 8: [MID-UNIT TEST] Week 9: Surface Area and Conversions Week 10: Conversions and Absolute Value [Quiz] Week 11: Ration, Proportion, and Similar Polygons Week 12: Least Common Multiple, Prime Factorization, Greatest Common Factor [Quiz] Week 13: Polynomials (Addition) and Volume of a Cylinder Week 14: Polynomials (Multiplication), Adding/Subtracting Time, and Same Difference Theorem Week 15: Volume of a Cone and Pyramid and Military Time (Adding/Subtracting) Week 16: Measurement (Adding/Subtracting), Irrational Numbers, the Square Root Formula, and Real Numbers Week 17: [FINAL TEST] Each class will follow the routine of the following Minute(s) 0:01 - 0:05 Greetings, Catching up. Teacher expertise and credentials
After teaching pre-algebra in a private school for 3 years, I turned my attention to homeschooling. While homeschooling, I have continued to practice teaching math in a small group setting for over 10 years. I am a patient teacher and strive to make the math concepts simple while showing the daily application of skills.
