US Grade 9 - 12
This class is designed to help students prepare for the U.S. Constitution test and to better understand the structure and functions of the United States government. This class will be structured like a tutoring session. During classes, students will follow a presentation of information, study tips, study games, and assessments to help students lock in the information from that day. Each class is created separately so they technically do not build on each other. However, students could have more success being enrolled in several weeks of class because this subject is so complex. The topics that will be covered during these classes are as follows: 27 amendments, three branches of government, functions of Congress, judicial review, roles of the President, the preamble and articles of the Constitution, and checks and balances. Sample Class Structure - introductions (2-5 minutes) - Slides presentation over the Legislative Branch (20) minutes - Questions (5 minutes) - Review Game (7-10 minutes) -Assessment (5-7 minutes; optional homework)
Learning Goals
Students will improve their knowledge of the functions of government and become more informed citizens.
