I am a certified teacher with 26 years of experience in Canadian classrooms. I specialize in Middle Years English and have led hundreds of book clubs with countless fifth and sixth grade children. I have truly enjoyed every minute of it. Perhaps most telling of all, I have been enthralled with “Anne of Green Gables” my whole life...so much so, that I went to Prince Edward Island and bought a farmhouse there!!
 1 file available upon enrollment
Every student will need a paper copy or a digital copy of the following book: Anne of Green Gables: A Graphic Novel Paperback – published October, 2017, adapted by Mariah Marsden(Author) Illustrated by Brenna Thummler (A Picture of Novel will be shown on the class page upon signing up for course)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Parents please note that the following stereotypes exist in the book due to the setting of the novel in the early 1900's: Expectations of girls, like Anne, only doing household cleaning and cooking instead of more rugged farm chores, and also the idea that girls’ prospects at this time were to be a teacher or get married.

These unfair gender stereotypes will provide an opportunity for discussion of how the world is different or the same today. An emphasis will be placed on encouraging learners in this class to follow their dreams, nurture their talents, reach their potential, and not be hindered or negatively influenced by the stereotypes that Anne faced.
