If you are fascinated by the Titanic or just love an exciting book, then this is the book club for you! Come along with me on this 4 week adventure as we read and discuss the novel, “I Survived the Sinking of the Titanic 1912”, by author Lauren Tarshis. Since this is the first book of the “I Survived…” series, this book club will also provide a wonderful introduction to future reading. Every class we will share our knowledge about the Titanic, learn about the historical fiction genre, practice our reading skills, and much more! It’s going to be so fun! We will meet once a week and our meetings will follow this schedule: Meeting One: Introductions and read chapters 1-2 together. Chapters 3-5 for homework. Meeting Two: Discussion and sharing time. Read chapter 6 together. Chapters 7-10 for homework. Meeting Three: Discussion and sharing time. Read chapter 11 together. Chapters 12-14 for homework. Meeting Four: Discussion and sharing time. Read chapters 15 and 16 together. Say our farewells!

-to learn about the genre of historical fiction
-to enjoy a children's chapter book about a high interest topic
-to share the joy of reading with others
-to practice small group discussion skills such as listening, responding to others respectfully, and stating opinions respectfully
-to learn about plot, setting, and character development

-to practice reading small sections aloud with expression and fluency

Learners will need a copy(either digital or paper) of the novel “I Survived the Sinking of the Titanic 1912” by Lauren Tarshis. Copies of the book are available to purchase online or your local library should also carry a copy of this book.
