US Grade 2 - 5
Young readers, I invite you to step into the exciting and mysterious world of "The Boxcar Children" by Gertrude Chandler Warner. We will have an awesome time together following the adventures of four orphaned siblings, Henry, Jessie, Violet, and Benny, as they secretly find a home in an abandoned boxcar and suspense around every corner! Parents, this is a perfect course for kids who love “Magic Tree House” books(or similar chapter books that are at the beginner level) and are looking for that next awesome series just a bit harder. My style of teaching centers around positivity and enthusiasm that is contagious for the learner. First, I get readers super excited about the book through expertly designed background pre-teaching activities, then we make fun predictions to engage and heighten interest, and finally, I build each learner’s confidence using scaffolding reading activities and specific encouragement as we take turns reading aloud. Once learners finish this book club, they will be ready to enjoy the whole “Boxcar Children” set and continue on a path of believing in themselves as great readers! Meetings are once a week and will follow this format: -Meeting One: Introductions and we will read Chapter 1 and 2 together. Chapter 3 and 4 will be for homework. -Meeting Two: Discussion and sharing time. We will read Chapter 5 and 6 together. Chapter 7 and 8 will be for homework. -Meeting Three: Discussion and sharing time. We will read Chapter 9 and 10 together. Chapter 11 and 12 will be for homework. -Meeting Four: Discussion and sharing time. We will read Chapter 13 together.
