Class Experience

This class is taught in English.
Learning Goals:
-to enjoy a short children's chapter book written by a critically acclaimed storyteller
-to share the joy of reading with others
-to practice small group discussion skills such as listening, responding to others respectfully, and stating opinions respectfully
-to learn about plot, setting, and character development
-to learn how to decode tricky words and read for meaning
-to practice reading small sections aloud with expression and fluency 
I am a certified teacher with 26 years of experience in Canadian classrooms.  I specialize in Middle Years English and have led hundreds of book clubs. “Stone Fox”has been part of my classroom literature collection for many years. 
Learners will read 1-2 chapters per week for homework.
 3 files available upon enrollment
Learners will need a copy of the novel “Stone Fox” by the author John Reynolds’s Gardiner which can be easily ordered online, or borrowed from your local library. A digital copy is also just fine. More info will be available upon enrollment.
Informal ongoing assessment will take place during the Outschool video sessions through questions and discussions about the novel.
40 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
