US Grade 6 - 9
This one-time course provides in-depth instruction of objectives that are needed to be successful in Algebra. Everything taught in this course will help prepare students for higher levels of Algebra. Students enrolling in this class should know their basic multiplication facts 0-12 and are expected to have notebook paper and a pencil or a whiteboard and marker to complete their problems. Algebra is all about problem solving. Knowing the basics to Algebra will help students better problem solve in Algebra and in real life. My teaching style combines lecture with examples, practice problems we can do together, and problems done individually to check for understanding. I encourage discussion throughout class so students can explain their reasonings.
Learning Goals
Students will learn comparing and ordering integers, absolute value, adding/subtracting/multiplying/dividing integers, fractions and the four operations, the real number system, properties of real numbers, order of operations, evaluating expressions, key words and phrases, inequalities, parts of an expression, combining like terms, distributive property, and one- and two-step equations.
