I have run movie and literature clubs for over 10 years with local homeschool groups covering all the films offered in this course. I approach the films from an intersectional perspective. Prior to homeschooling I worked for a corporation for 15 years. During my corporate tenure I ran training groups that covered a variety of human resources topics including but not limited to diversity and harassment.
Learners will be responsible for watching the movie prior to class. Movies range in time from and 1h30min to 3h27min (The Seven Samurai is long). Learners should plan accordingly.
Movies are available to rent on various platforms: You Tube, Amazon, Apple TV, Netflix, Vudu, GooglePlayMovies, and may be available at your local library.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
These movies cover a variety of themes and language that some families may find offensive or disturbing. When these issues arise, they will be handled with sensitivity and candidness. Please note movies released prior to 1968 do not have ratings. Please review movies to determine if appropriate for your learner. If you are unfamiliar with a movie family oriented reviews can be found at www.commonsensemedia.com.
