Join us on a creative journey that combines cinema and special effects makeup tutorials! Every week, we'll be exploring the color palette and style embodied in a particular movie. We’ll discuss the characters and aesthetic in the film and then create incredible make-up looks inspired by the movie. From fantastical to gory, your learner will discover the secrets and techniques used by Hollywood professionals. Whether it's the eerie charm of a Tim Burton creation or exploration of bruises and prosthetics, each session offers a hands-on exploration of makeup artistry. Join us and bring your favorite movie characters to life with our dynamic blend of film appreciation and practical skills! What makes this class so unique? Teacher Kate is a professional filmmaker who teaches everything from film to screenwriting on Outschool. She brings incredible experience from her roles in theater and film to our class. Please ensure the films meet your family’s viewing standards.
In some classes, we’ll explore the use of prosthetics using liquid latex. If your learner has a latex allergy, please let us know. We will certainly provide alternatives for them in class.
Anytime a learner is using liquid latex for the first time, we’ll help them through a SMALL patch test on their wrist to ensure there are no allergies before proceeding with a larger area.
Supply List
All make-up supplies are welcome in class! Below are some examples of SFX make-up supplies that are available on Amazon. Anything with a variety of brushes/sponges and an assortment of colors is welcome. https://a.co/d/72j3vYQ https://a.co/d/26xG3Mx We will explore prosthetics in some of our classes. It is helpful to have a small bottle of liquid latex on hand. NOTE: This is 100% optional. If your learner has a latex allergy, we will certainly provide alternative activities in class for them. This is an example of a recommended liquid latex product: https://a.co/d/hfbYilA Note that sometimes when creating SFX/cosplay/glam looks, brushes and make-up palettes are mixed in ways that make them unusable for everyday looks. Having an inexpensive set of supplies dedicated to artistic purposes is ideal. Some movie clips or the trailer will be shown in class to provide some context of the film. However, learners may enjoy watching some of the films we’ll be discussing before class for additional inspiration and context. Examples of films we’ll be discussing in August 2024: The Nightmare Before Christmas Alice in Wonderland Corpse Bride Karate Kid Home Alone Jumanji Narnia Spiderwick Chronicles Luca
