Class Experience

In this weekly class, learners will get the opportunity to discover the magic of movies with other like-minded movie fans. Whether you are new to the world of cinema or you're a real movie buff, all are welcome. An enthusiasm for movies is all that is needed!

Class structure will look roughly as follows:

- Discussion based on the movie of the week.
This will include teacher led critical analysis using film terminology such as:
Pre-production analysis including: scripts, locations and casting
Production analysis including: cinematography, mise-en-scene, sound and visual/special effects
Post-production analysis including: editing, franchises and box office revenue

- Movie trivia, facts and quizzes

- Watching trailers for upcoming movies

Students will be required to watch the movie of the week (MOTW) before class if they wish to participate fully in the discussion, although clips can be watched to help emphasise points for those that haven't. The MOTW will be based on monthly seasons that could be inspired by a certain theme, director, actor, film studio etc. Students are encouraged to suggest movies and therefore the following are subject to change depending on student preference.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
I have been in education for 19 years and am currently the Assistant Head of Special Educational Needs in a secondary school (students aged 11-16) in the UK. I believe in an inclusive education for all students, no matter their ability or disability.
I teach English, Film and Media, and creativity is at the heart of all the classes I teach.
I was an art technician for three years in which I honed my artistic skills that I will use to offer art based classes.
I also ran my own small baking and cake decorating business for seven years; I even had celebrity clients! So, I hope to offer these classes to students in the near future.
In my spare time I love walking my pug and I am an avid reader of fantasy fiction. I also enjoy running; I have completed several half marathons and my goal is to complete a full marathon some day. I am a big kid at heart so look out for my Pokémon based classes!

I will leave you with one final thought: 'Education is the most powerful weapon we can use to change the world.' - Nelson Mandela.
