Class Experience

Create a calm and happy morning with nature movement meditation! 

In this one-time class, we will use nature as our inspiration and wake up our bodies with movement meditation.

What is “movement meditation”? Similar to normal meditation, we focus our minds on one thing or one idea. Movement mediation allows us to move our bodies and connect physically to our ideas! It blends dance, yoga poses, and sounds. It can help us wake up our bodies, release any negative emotions, bring in positive feelings, and get wiggles out. 

This class combines movement meditation and the inspiration and calming effects of nature! Before class, learners will go on a nature hunt with their grown-up! (Nature hunt list is under Learner Supplies).

We will begin class in a seated position on the floor, and do a quick check-in to see how everyone is feeling. Each learner will be able to share their nature hunt treasures. Then it’s time for our movement meditation! We will hear instrumental nature songs, and move like trees, leaves, and animals! Learners will practice breathing, body and emotional awareness, and mindfulness all with the help of nature.

After our movement meditation, we will talk about what it felt like - what we liked, what we didn't like, and how we feel now! We will also play a mindfulness game with our nature hunt items.

At the end of class, learners will be able to set an intention and a goal for their day. We will leave class feeling happy, calm, and ready to take on the day! 

This class is super interactive! We'll be sharing our nature hunt items, moving our bodies, and brainstorming together. Make sure your learner has either a yoga mat or soft blanket to sit on, and enough room to move around. They should wear comfortable clothes that allow them to stretch and dance. 

Each learner will have several opportunities to share and speak, but it is not required if they are not comfortable. This is a great class for learners who love to dance and express themselves through movement!

*NOTE*
For families living in winter climates: If you are unable to find nature items outside due to snow/ice/rain, you can modify your nature hunt to be inside! Your learner can draw and color the nature items, have you (parent/guardian) hide them around the house, and then search for them together! Additionally, if you have fake leaves/flowers already in your home (maybe from holidays or past events), your learner can bring those as well!

Parental Guidance
*Safety* Learners should have a yoga mat or blanket, and enough room to move around and dance. They should wear comfortable clothes that they are able to stretch and move in. Learners can bring water to class if they would like, but it is not required.
Supply List
1) A yoga mat or blanket 
2) A pillow (optional)
3) Nature hunt items
     - A leaf (try to find a leaf that has already fallen)
     - A stick or twig
     - A flower 
     - A rock 
     - 1 nature item of choice (this could be a pinecone, acorn, etc!)
4) 1 piece of paper and crayons/markers (for intention setting activity)

I am a trained dancer/mover and have been practicing mindfulness, meditation, and yoga for several years. I have taught mindful movement and dance in the preschool and kindergarten setting as well!
