Class Experience
US Grade 1st grade
I, as a k-6 certified reading teacher, have seen this phonics instruction, first hand, grow student's test scores, and more importantly their confidence immensely. In order to become a good reader a child must build a good foundation of understanding in language comprehension and word recognition. Students will improve their phonemic awareness and build confidence in their pre-reading abilities.
I have taught this curriculum 3 years now in 3 different grades (k,1, &2) each time I have seen the scholars engaged and growing their skills in a way that is fun and the repetitive nature of the program works to build confidence in skills that directly correlate to reading. I have also seen students grow through this program and grow their test scores on state diagnostic testing.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
1 hour 20 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
We will be using primary curriculum Heggerty Phonemic Awareness curriculumn.
