In this class we will learn about the famous eruption of Mount Vesuvius and the destruction of Pompeii by reading 'Escape from Pompeii'. We will explore why the eruption was so disastrous for the city of Pompeii, how it was rediscovered from the ashes it was buried under and what it looks like today. We will also briefly discuss how we predict and react to volcanic eruptions today and where in the world the most famous active volcanoes are located. There will be an informative slideshow with videos and lots of time for discussion and questions. This is an interactive class and learners will be allowed to comment and ask questions throughout. This cross-curricular class will develop skills and knowledge in history, geography and english. No prior knowledge needed. Please bring paper and colour pens incase we have time to draw our own Mount Vesuvius at the end of the class!
