Class Experience

This class will cover unconventional motivation techniques suited for learners who require more creativity and flexibility to get motivated.

We will cover how to pair boring tasks with things they enjoy, how to turn tasks into games, how to use roleplay to make tasks more fun, and how to harness the presence of other people to get things done. This course leans into curiosity, novelty, and creativity- all things that a neurodivergent brain needs to thrive.

My teaching style is very casual and conversational. I will be lecturing in this seminar style course, but will also allow students plenty of opportunities to not only share their own motivation struggles and work arounds with other students.

Learning Goals

Learners will identify at least three different motivation strategies introduced in the class.
Learners will explain the difference between traditional motivation strategies and those presented in the Motivation Magic class.

Other Details

Learning Needs
Typical motivation strategies assume that willpower is constant, and rely on external rewards. Motivation Magic supports learners with ADHD, ASD, Dyslexia, and other neurodivergent students by embracing alternative thinking models.
Supply List
Notebook
Pen or pencil

I will supply downloadable documents outlining the motivational strategies covered in the class.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
As a neurodivergent instructional designer with a graduate degree and over a decade of experience creating engaging learning experiences for all ages, I know firsthand how tricky motivation can be—especially for brains that don’t fit the mold. These strategies aren’t just theoretical: I used them myself to get through grad school, manage a career, and juggle real life as a parent of neurodivergent kiddos.

Motivation isn’t about “trying harder.” It’s about finding tools that actually work for your unique brain. In this class, I combine research-backed methods with playful, practical tools to help kids build confidence, curiosity, and momentum—so they can get things done, even when their motivation has gotten up and gone.
