US Grade 4 - 6
In this one-time class, learners will explore the history behind Samuel F. B. Morse's invention of the telegraph and Morse code. We will use a Nearpod to allow for interactive slides and teacher "fun" lecture moments. Learners will use Morse code to decipher clues. I encourage student participation and a positive class culture- meaning that everyone takes turns and does not interrupt each other. I believe learning should be fun! We will have fun learning about Morse code and the history behind it! Depending on the number of learners enrolled, and the interest in certain things being discussed, the outline may be adjusted slightly to allow for more depth and/or student led research. Students are encouraged to ask questions, if needed. A positive class culture is a must, so I prefer learners to take turns when participating and to treat each other respectfully.
Learning Goals
-Learners can describe the significance of Samuel F. B. Morse.
-Learners can identify the changes the telegraph made on society during the time period it was invented.
-Learners can use Morse code to crack codes and share information.
