Having an understanding of word formation and meaning can aid in spelling, reading comprehension, and language abilities. There are no live meetings in this flexible schedule class. As a class, we will work together to build words and break down meanings. We will be learning some basic affixes and using our knowledge to build and decode words. By the end of the course * students will be able to identify root words and the meaning of some common affixes, as well as understand how to utilize them to build and decode words.
I have a B.A. in Applied Linguistics and believe it is important to understand how words are formed and what each component of a word means. With the ability to break down words according to meaningful parts, students will have the ability to decode what they are reading to gain a better understanding.
