Morning Meeting for Students with Disabilities
Review the day of the week, month, year, season, weather, temperature, shapes, and letters. Open to any learner. Designed for neurodiverse students or students with intellectual, physical, or developmental disabilities.

This class is primarily for students with disabilities who may benefit from a regular check-in and review of skills. Non-verbal students can use chat or communication devices throughout the session. Verbal participation is not required. Parents may assist their learners but must remain off-screen. A worksheet will be available if the student would like to record their answers at home. Each session will follow a similar format. We will use elements of Responsive Classrooms to promote kindness and respect. Greeting: We will start with a welcome song and then greet each other. Each student will be asked to say or indicate their name. They may share their pronouns as well. An opening slide will prompt a choice question, such as do you like cats or dogs? Calendar: Review the days of the week and months of the year. Name the day and date. Share: Review the season and types of weather. Share our own weather and temperature. Share one thing we like about the current weather. Literacy Activity: Review the Alphabet through song and activity. Each week will focus on a different letter. Additional activities will practice phonemic awareness (such as rhyming and identifying initial, middle, or ending sounds - based on Heggerty principles) as well as phonic activities such as word families. We will end our session by reviewing what we learned as captured on the worksheet. We will end with a closing song and a directed drawing as time allows.

I am a former Special Education teacher for students with moderate to severe cognitive disabilities. I developed my own curriculum to teach life skills and I enjoy working with diverse learners. I also have two neurodiverse children who have benefitted from building routines.
