Class Experience

US Grade 3 - 6
Fashion in the 1500s included women wearing elaborate headpieces. If you look at paintings of any of the wives of Henry VIII or even his daughters Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth I, you will see this fashion. In this class, we will make a headpiece inspired by this fashion trend. To make things easy, we will use supplies that can be found around the house!

First, we will construct the hat. Once the base of the hat is complete, we will use fabric and other items to decorate it.

The instructor will teach LIVE and reference a few slides. Step-by-step instruction will be provided, as the learner will make their headpiece at the same time as the instructor will show each step in the process. A supply list is provided prior to class so the learner has everything they need. A hot glue gun is recommended, but not required. Parental supervision when using a hot glue gun may be necessary. (At the beginning of class, please ask your parent to confirm with me in person if they are happy for you to use without supervision.)

Other Details

Parental Guidance
We will be using staplers, tape and a hot glue gun. Please confirm if you are happy for your child to use unsupervised.
Supply List
Please have the following supplies ready to use:
- 1 cereal box (you can use any box, but a cereal box is about the amount of cardboard you will need)
- scissors, tape and a stapler
- hot glue gun and glue sticks (please have a parent nearby if you need assistance)
- Fabric to decorate -- you could use an old t-shirt or spare fabric to cover the hat.
- other decorations: beads, gems, anything you like. We can discuss decorations in Session 1 and you can bring them to Session 2.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a professional tour guide in London and love going around the city (sometimes dressed in costume!) and teaching visitors about the fascinating history. With over 2000 years of events, there is plenty to learn! My signature tour is where I dress like a singing nanny from the Edwardian period and teach about suffragettes and chimney sweeps!
If you have been dreaming of visiting London, but want to get a head start on learning more about this city and the history here.... my classes are perfect for you.
I believe that you can learn and have fun at the same time. No subject is too boring, and I hope you will find my classes to be entertaining, engaging and educational. During class, I often change costumes to help keep the learners engaged and I encourage dressing up in class!
