Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
In this one-time class, students will get an overview of the major moral theories the great philosophers have devised throughout history, including virtue ethics, deontology, and utilitarianism.

The instructor will explain and contextualize the material in a brief and engaging way, using real-world examples and thought experiments to illustrate difficult concepts. Then we will have a guided Socratic-style student-led discussion. This format enables the students both to grasp the material enough to engage with it meaningfully, and to then actively relate to it on their own terms.
Learning Goals
Students will develop an understanding of personal ethics and how it applies to their own lives.
Students will gain the opportunity to learn about and discuss difficult concepts with peers.
