Welcome to our Montessori inspired virtual classroom where we learn life skills and age appropriate curriculum together while having fun. The Friendship Haven classroom is positive, welcoming and social. Lessons will always be hands-on and interactive. Learners can join or cancel at any time throughout the course. Extension activities will be provided to enhance your child's learning experience. We enjoy making life easier for parents so enrichment activities will be related to our weekly topic for a seamless homeschooling experience. Each week we focus on a specific theme. The daily lesson will be related to the weekly theme. Week of September 20: Types of Writing Week of September 27: Types of Writing Week of October 4: Personal Narrative Week of October 10: Personal Narrative Week of October 17: Comic Books Week of October 25: Comic Books We will follow themed units each month. We will participate in shared reading activities to build reading fluency and comprehension skills. Diverse stories will be used as writing examples as representation of all children is important to us. Writing lessons will be focused on a specific writing outcome. Montessori spelling activities and games will be used to increase retention and comprehension. At Friendship Haven, our goal is for your child to gain the skills required for a lifetime of self-guided learning. As they show interest in different things around them, we will guide their curiosity with fun education. It is very important to me that your child feels supported and represented in our classes. At the beginning of our time together I will be emailing you an about me sheet. This sheet will help me learn about each student. I look forward to meeting you!

Welcome Families,
My name is Ms. Hillier. I am an Elementary teacher living in Canada. I taught in the public system for six years and my experience is in lower Elementary classrooms. I also have been teaching online for two years. In addition to teaching, I have been running the youngest branch of Girl Guides in my area for the last twelve years.
Over the years I have met so many lovely students, but something was missing in my classrooms. The public system is built around the "average" child. One who learns at a level that matches their age. What about the students who are at a lower level then considered the average? Or higher? The current system in my opinion, isn't giving them what they deserve! The lower students are pushed through. Not really feeling like they are good enough! The students at a higher level are given twenty worksheets and are often bored. It made me feel defeated year after year!
I decided to find a new way to teach children. One where every child could feel successful and work at their own level. This dream for something different lead me to obtaining a diploma in Lower Elementary Montessori Teaching.
A school system where students love learning, laugh, and be silly, to grow, explore and be their very best! There are no average students, so I don't want to teach in an average school!
I decided to teach on Outschool for just this reason! Online I am able to teach a child the skills they need and what interests them. Instead of what the province says a 7 year old should be doing to be successful. Every child is unique and special, who learns in their own way! This is how I want to teach my programs.
I can't wait to meet your child and watch them shine!
Thank you for your interest in my classes.
