This lesson using manipulatives will lead to grasping and then crystallization of the concept of dynamic (carrying over) addition.
Class Experience
I have created this lesson using the Montessori Stamp Game as an inspiration and will be teaching students to add up larger quantities ( two, three and four-digit quantities) that include carrying over, using primary colored foam squares. For this particular class, I will provide a short lesson and then have some time aside for questions to be asked or doubts to be cleared. I am positive that a 50-minute duration will be enough time for students to follow the lesson, practice a few examples...
This lesson is very hands-on as using primary-colored foam squares, students will easily be able to add up two, three and four-digit quantities including carrying over very easily.
With my observation and 10 years of teaching experience using the Montessori Method specifically children aged 6 to 9, this lesson has been one of the favorite lessons of children and has helped a lot of children who were initially struggling with his particular concept. I feel after having presented this lesson I would be able to set the children up for success.
