Class Experience

US Grade Kindergarten - 3
Beginner Level
Session 1. In this engaging class, students will have the opportunity to listen and interact with the Montessori story of the noun and its origin. They will learn about the pyramid noun symbol and how it came to be through a unique story, a slideshow, and many examples. We will then play a noun sorting activity in which learners can share some real examples of nouns. Students will also create sentences with nouns and label with the pyramid symbol they have learned. Then we will read an excerpt from the funny book, “A Mink, A Fink and a Skating Rink: What Is a Noun?” At the end of class, students will go on a quick noun search to see what noun is closest to them.

Session 2. Students will have the opportunity to learn about the unique Montessori noun family, which is comprised of the article, adjective and noun parts of speech. Through an engaging slideshow presentation and demonstration, students will learn the story of each member of the noun family. We will then create our own short story using noun family examples and label with the Montessori grammar symbols. Students will practice using the grammar symbols of light blue, medium blue, and black triangles.
At the end of class, students will have the opportunity to make their own “silly sentence“ using noun family words.

Session 3. We will hear the Montessori story of the adjective and its origin. Students will learn about the adjective symbol and why it has the shape of a medium blue triangle. Through an interactive slideshow, learners will many examples of adjectives and have the chance to share many of their own. We will go on an adjective hunt and find words that describe many common nouns. Students will also create and label sentences by using the noun family, which will extend their learning. Students will listen to part of a short story and identify adjectives they hear in it. To end class, students will learn an adjective chant which will help them remember the important work of an adjective!

Session 4. Students will learn about the verb symbol and why it has the shape of a red sphere. Through an interactive slideshow we will see many examples of verbs and learners who have the chance to share many of their own. We will get up and moving by demonstrating many verb actions, such as stretch, march and sing, among others. Students will also create sentences with verbs and label with the red sphere symbol they have learned. Students will listen to part of a short story and be able to identify verbs within it. To end class, we will hear part of a verb rap song to remind us what verbs do!

Session 5. Your kiddos will go on a virtual field trip to the zoo where they will learn about Montessori verbs and adverbs! The story of each grammar symbol will be shared before beginning our animal adventure! While on our tour of the zoo, students will see various animals. We will talk and write sentences about each using verbs and adverbs, along with their Montessori symbols. (The lion roars loudly!)
After the zoo, students will create their own sentences using grammar symbols with some special animals as inspiration!

Session 6. In this pronoun class, they will practice using this part of speech with pictures and sentences. We will then create a superhero themed story in a madlibs style, filling in blanks with pronouns and labeling with the Montessori symbol. If time allows, learners can begin creating their own short stories, correctly using the pronouns they’ve learned about. This will be a fun and interactive way to practice parts of speech!

Session 7. Students will learn the unique Montessori story of the preposition which is a green crescent. Students will participate in using prepositions which demonstrate a relationship between words. We will tell a picnic themed story to practice using a variety of prepositions in a creative and fun way, through a picnic adventure! Students will be encouraged to add their own details to the story through using prepositions. At the end of class, students will have the opportunity to show their own examples of prepositions using items around them.

Session 8. We will focus on 2 more symbols in this class, the conjunction and interjection symbol. Learners will use silly interjections such as “Yikes, Hooray, and Wow!”” to make funny sentences. Students will also have the opportunity to describe their own food preference sentences using conjunctions such as “and, or, but, so and because.” (I don’t like veggies but I love all fruits!)

Hello! I am so excited to teach your kiddos on Outschool! I have a degree in Elementary Education and have been teaching over 20 years. I also have a specialty Montessori certificate in grades 1-3, and a TESOL certification credential. For nine years I specialized as a learning Title I learning support teacher with a focus in reading and writing in the language arts curriculum with 5-9 year olds. I have taught 1st and 2nd grade in a Montessori classroom. I love helping children learn to read by teaching the fundamental skills of early reading, grammar and writing. I also teach many cultures themed lessons for learners where we can enjoy exploring topics of our planet and space together!
I love to help children learn and be successful in the classroom through fun and engaging activities. I like to make classes challenging and rewarding for students, and I have a very student centered approach, which is aligned with the Montessori teaching philosophy. I think of myself as a guide, who always strives to meet children at their instructional level.
Outside of teaching, I am a mother of adult boy/girl twins. My husband and I have a senior rescue terrier named Sandy and we love to go for long walks. I also enjoy living a very healthy lifestyle which includes walking, hiking, yoga, running and enjoying nature whenever possible!
Thank you for taking the time to find out more about me. I hope to see your child in the classroom soon!
