Please scroll down to see a sequenced catalog of 'Montessori Read and Write' classes. Every meeting will include four parts: 1) An initial-sound song with a slide show for digraphs - live accompaniment with my autoharp! This is for review before we read labels. 2) Vocabulary enrichment: labeling and discussion about sixteen photos that are in the same category; i.e., words that sound alike but are spelled differently and have different meanings: "deer" and "dear" (homonyms). Reading will be in lowercase print. 3) Writing: for cursive handwriting and spelling practice, we'll trace dotted-font handwriting guides, and also copy each word in cursive 4) Reading & spelling practice with a BINGO game: challenge yourself to spell words like "straight" and "strait." This class will be similar to a real Montessori classroom experience; a small group of mixed-age learners with a shared enthusiasm for vocabulary, discussion, reading, and writing! Learners must have cursive experience before enrolling; a dotted-font alphabet with arrows, a dotted-font alphabet with no arrows, and a cursive pangram, will all be given upon enrollment. This class is designed for readers who are learning to write lists of words, with correct spelling. They've already mastered simple phonics and can write cursive words on lined paper. This class is a little more difficult than my ongoing class 'Montessori Read and Write: Cursive Practice and Digraph Mastery for Emerging Writers.' The content is complimentary and the learning extension supplies are similar. We will begin each session with an initial-sound song for each letter of the alphabet. This is just for review. Please note: this Beginning Writers class may be confusing for younger learners who read phonetically and write with inventive spelling. If you think your child might not be ready for this level, I suggest completing at least sixteen sessions of the ongoing class 'Montessori Read and Write: Essential Skills for Phonics Fun!' I will provide cursive-font practice lists for that class upon request; it is taught with the lowercase print movable alphabet. This is a very visual and interactive class, with photos and discussion. See the list of lessons below. The content is not cumulative. My teaching style is warm and encouraging; each session concludes with a goodbye song with live autoharp accompaniment. The day before each session, learners will receive the following supplies: cursive handwriting practice lists for the topic, and a colorful BINGO card. The pictures on this card match the vocabulary words. Learners can keep a folder of word lists, and/or copy the words into a spelling notebook. We’ll progress from simple to complex activities during each meeting; with reading in lowercase print and writing in cursive as tandem skills. Print = reading & cursive = writing is typical in many Montessori schools. In 2022 Week of: 10/31: simple plural nouns with -s & -es plural nouns 11/07: -ies plural nouns & irregular plural nouns such as 'children' and 'mice.' 11/14: homophones such as 'deer' and 'dear' & more homophones such as 'ate' and 'eight' 11/28: common puzzle words (all are spelling rule-breakers) such as 'people' and 'laugh' & color names - sixteen hues such as 'vermillion' and 'aquamarine' 12/05: synonyms such as 'joyous' and 'delighted' & more synonyms such as 'calm' and 'peaceful' 12/12: antonyms such as 'cheerful' and 'discouraged' & more antonyms such as 'interior' and 'exterior' 12/19: compound words such as 'bowtie' set #1 & compound words such as 'earring' set #2 12/26: compound words such as 'baseball' set #3 & compound words such as 'bedroom' set #4 MONTESSORI READ & WRITE ONGOING CLASSES IN SEQUENCE: 1.
