Class Experience

US Grade Preschool - Kindergarten
Welcome to our Montessori Science class, designed to nurture the natural curiosity of young children through hands-on exploration and concrete learning experiences. This program is tailored to foster a love for science by engaging children in activities that stimulate their inquisitive minds and encourage active participation. Our goal is to provide a solid foundation in scientific thinking and processes that will serve as a cornerstone for future learning.

We are proud to be the first and only accredited Montessori school on the Outschool platform, featuring certified teachers who bring their expertise from our brick-and-mortar school located in Ontario, Canada.

In this Montessori Science class, children will engage in a variety of activities aimed at nurturing their inherent curiosity and building a strong understanding of scientific concepts. The curriculum focuses on hands-on exploration and concrete learning experiences to help children grasp complex ideas in a tangible and enjoyable way. The key areas of focus will include:

Observing: Children will learn to carefully observe their surroundings and record their findings, fostering attention to detail and critical thinking skills.

Sorting and Classifying: Through various activities, children will practice sorting objects based on different attributes and classifying them into categories, helping to develop their organizational and analytical skills.

Asking Questions: Encouraging children to ask questions about the world around them is a fundamental part of scientific inquiry. This class will stimulate their curiosity and teach them how to frame meaningful questions.

Predicting: Students will make predictions based on their observations and prior knowledge, learning to anticipate outcomes and understand cause-and-effect relationships.

Experimenting: Hands-on experiments will allow children to test their predictions and explore scientific concepts in a controlled and engaging environment.

Measuring and Estimating: Activities involving measurement and estimation will help children develop their quantitative skills and understand the importance of accuracy in scientific investigations.

Designing and Making Models: Children will have the opportunity to design and create models, enhancing their creativity and spatial awareness.

Finding Patterns and Relationships: Identifying patterns and relationships is a crucial part of scientific thinking. Children will learn to recognize these connections through guided activities.

Communicating Findings: Effective communication is key to science. Students will learn to share their findings with peers and teachers through discussions, presentations, and written reports.

Class Structure

Each session will begin with a brief lecture on the day's topic, providing students with a clear understanding of what they will be exploring. The teacher will then demonstrate the materials or worksheets needed for the activity, showing step-by-step how to complete the task. Following the demonstration, children will have the opportunity to try the activity independently while the teacher observes and provides real-time feedback. This structured approach ensures that children learn through experience while receiving the support they need to succeed.

Our teaching style is fun, engaging, and productive. We believe that learning should be an enjoyable experience that stimulates curiosity and a love for discovery. By creating a positive and supportive atmosphere, we aim to keep students motivated and eager to participate. Activities are designed to be dynamic and interactive, encouraging active participation from all students.

Students will have ample opportunities to interact with the teacher and their peers throughout the class. The small group setting ensures that each child receives personalized attention and has the chance to actively participate in all activities. We incorporate a variety of teaching methods, including interactive games, discussions, slides, and occasional video clips, to make lessons dynamic and relatable.

Join us in the Montessori Science class, where we help children develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of the natural world. Through engaging activities and a supportive learning environment, we inspire curiosity and foster a lifelong love for science and discovery.

Learning Goals

Children will learn to make predictions based on observations and formulate hypotheses for simple experiments. They will develop critical thinking skills by testing their ideas, analyzing their results, and presenting in a report.
Students will investigate how different variables affect outcomes through hands-on experiments. They will explore cause and effect relationships, fostering a deeper understanding of scientific processes.
